WeKey teach group piano lessons for beginners at Primary School. We work with 4 and more students per group and focus on teaching piano, and the language of music, through the lens of our students musical interest. We pride ourselves in being able to adapt our lessons to any music material; our teachers are able to listen to any piece of music and know how to play it, even if they haven’t heard it before.

Our lessons might look like this: A student coming into a lesson and mentioning they have heard a piece of music from a film over the weekend, we have a listen as a group. Our teachers are then able to adapt their lesson with the music just mentioned, while unfolding a key learning outcome through it. For the teacher this might mean in the moment working it out by ear, simplifying it, changing the key, collaboratively arranging it over the space of the lesson, etc.

Through the course of our lessons we are prioritising not just piano playing but musical language learning too, this means not just the physical playing of music but also understanding how to listen to and comprehend the music we play. We hope to become more autonomous musical speakers, just like our teachers, understanding the foundations to access music from listening. We also cherish and promote creativity as a way to realise an individuals learning in their own way; At WeKey we are not just performers, we are expressing ourselves through the language that we are learning.

How We Work

Details

Our lessons are 30 minutes or 60 Minutes in duration.

The price of one lesson is £9.00 (30 Minutes) or £18.00 (60 Minutes), that we group into a single termly payment. Usually, with 40 school weeks of the year - with slight variation depending on the school activities calendar, totalling no more than £120.00 or £240.00 per term respectively. We are also passionate about working with schools under the governments pupil premium scheme, so please do contact the school to arrange this if you are eligible.

We also want to make a mention for presence of keyboards at home, we have great recommendations for inexpensive keyboards in the region of £50 so please do ask us. It will be important to have access to a keyboard or piano at home to make the most of our lessons.

As seen in the other sections, we pride ourselves in supporting our teachers own musical engagement, however where lessons are not covered by another teacher but are missed, we will not invoice for these. It is not possible for us as a group to cover individual absence from lessons, but in the case of unforeseen school closure we will not invoice for this either.
